The DAWN
Chanan Development Association (CDA) is a non-profit, non-governmental, secular registered youth lead organization formed by a group of young professional activists in 2004 as Chanan Theatre Group. Later, in 2006, at the second anniversary of the theatre group, the need was felt to register the group to have a legal identity and to expand its work in a formal and structured way, therefore, the name of Chanan Theatre Group was changed into Chanan Development Association as the group got registered under societies registration Act 1860, with registration # RP / 3221 / L / S / 06 /1816.
The Motto of Chanan Theatre Group is “Changing Behaviors to Change Realities”, as the pioneer of CDA firmly believes that “Theatre” can play a vital role to bring change in the knowledge, attitude and practices of the people.
One year later of the registration, CDA initiated its media unit and started making documentaries on various social and human rights issues and than shared these films with the local, and national media channels.
The story of CDA is genesis of an idea based on social change through Art-based development approach and its materialization is interactive theatre and media as a tool for change. The distinctiveness in CDA’s work is attributed to giving visual images to social issues. These images were used in form of theatre, media / videos, documentaries, information, education and communication (IEC) material.
Now a days CDA is working as the “Resource Centre” for the youth led initiatives and other civil society organizations and providing consultancies on art-based approaches including theatre and film making. CDA is also actively involved in policy advocacy.
CDA is also very actively involved in policy advocacy, peer education and capacity building and awareness raising among the marginalized section of society.
